TUI launch flights to Sharm El Sheikh, Tunisia and Hurghada from Newcastle Airport

Holidaymakers will be able to fly to resorts in Egypt and Tunisia directly from Newcastle next year.

TUI has announced its winter 2020 programme and from November 7 next year there will be weekly flights to Sharm El Sheikh, operating on Saturdays from Newcastle International Airport .

The holiday company will also be introducing new routes to Tunisia, departing weekly on Mondays, and Hurghada, departing weekly on Fridays.

In addition, the firm will offer 10 and 11 night holidays to Lanzarote, with the addition of a weekly flight operating every Sunday.

Then, in summer 2021, Newcastle Airport will see an increase of 8,000 seats with a second fortnightly flight to family favourite Orlando Sanford, in Florida. This will allow for 10 and 11 night holidays there.

Karen Switzer, TUI director of aviation planning, said: "Earlier this month TUI announced its winter 2020 and summer 2021 holiday programme which has since expanded with more destinations and added flights.

"We are delighted that the additional flights provide holidaymakers departing from our regional airports with even more choice when deciding where to go away.

"With additional flying capacity and more than 1,000 hotels already on sale for summer 2021, it gives those planning ahead the opportunity to choose the most suitable airport, destination and hotel.

"The customer is at the heart of everything we do and this additional growth to some of our customers' favourite holiday hotspots from Newcastle Airport demonstrates our continued commitment for people to discover their smile with us."

Leon McQuaid, head of aviation development at Newcastle Airport, added: "We are delighted that TUI have further expanded their destination portfolio with the addition of Sharm El Sheikh into their winter programme, as well as extending services to Hurghada and Tunisia.

"Tunisia and Egypt are extremely popular destinations due to the year-round sunshine, and we have received countless requests for services to Sharm El Sheikh - so it is great to see these popular winter sun destinations on offer to the North East travelling public."
