TUI, Jet2, British Airways, Ryanair, Easyjet latest Spain August travel advice

Brits booked to travel to Spain face travel chaos this summer after the government introduced a two-week mandatory quarantine upon return.

The shock announcement on July 25 was revealed just five hours before the measures became mandatory.

The government announced that all holidaymakers returning from Spain, the Canary Islands and Balearic Islands must self-isolate for 14 days from July 26.

One Jet2 plane arrived at 11.58pm - meaning one lucky set of passengers escaped the new policy by the skin of their teeth.

The Foreign and Commonwealth Office only initially warned Brits against "all but essential travel" to mainland Spain only.

But in an update on July 27, it added that Brits should also not travel to the Canary Islands or Balearic Islands unless it was necessary.

Thousands of holidays have been cancelled as a result - with many travellers facing losing hundreds of pounds.

Now we've pulled together the latest information for Brits set to travel next month.

British Airways

The airline said on Sunday that it was disappointed by the shock announcement.

But it said that all flights will continue as normal and warned that the policy would further cripple the aviation industry.

A spokeswoman said: "While our flights continue to operate, this is sadly yet another blow for British holidaymakers and cannot fail to have an impact on an already troubled aviation industry."

EasyJet

The airline has confirmed that they will continue to fly to Spain despite the change in government advice.

But it has cancelled all package holidays to mainland Spain, the Canary Islands, and the Balearic Islands until July 31.

Customers who have booked with easyJet Holidays can also move their departure date up to 28 days before.

A spokesman for the airline said: "We are planning to operate flights to all of Spain in the coming days but we continue to monitor this with a view to align the flight schedule to demand."

TUI

The tour operator has cancelled all holidays to the Spain mainland up to August 9, and holidays to the islands up to 31st July.

The furious travel firm issued a blistering statement on Saturday night criticising the decision.

All flights were cancelled on Sunday as the tour operator scrambled to pick up the pieces.

And it initially restarted flights to the Balearic Islands and Canary Islands on July 27, but these were axed after the Foreign Office changed its advice.

Customers set to travel to any part of Spain between 27 July and 9 August can can cancel or amend their holiday, with the option to rebook with an incentive or a full refund.

The tour operator says it will contact all customers with options.

Customers with holidays to Balearic Islands and Canary Islands from 1st August and mainland Spain from 10th August will be updated on Friday 31st July.

Anyone currently abroad will return on their intended flight home.

Ryanair

Ryanair will continue to run their flights to Spanish airports.

Neil Sorahan, Ryanair's chief financial officer, told the BBC: "The schedules remain in place."

Speaking on the BBC's Today programme, Mr Sorahan added: "As things stand, the market remains open, the schedules remain in place and we continue to operate in and out of Spain as normal."

One customer tweeted on Sunday that they were able to move their flights without incurring a charge.

She tweeted: "Gutted not to be able to go to Spain to see my parents on Sunday ... but at least @Ryanair have let us change flights to October half term with no fees ... here’s to my first 6 week holidays since I was about 9 spent at home."

Jet2 has cancelled all holidays and flights to mainland Spain until August 17.

Flights to the Canary Islands and Balearics set to take off on July 28 were axed late last night after the Foreign Office changed its advice to warn against all non-essential travel there.

A Jet2 spokeswoman said:

“Following the latest government advice regarding travel to the Balearic and Canary Islands from the UK, we are advising customers who are due to travel to the following destinations (Tenerife, Fuerteventura, Gran Canaria, Lanzarote, Majorca, Menorca and Ibiza) not to go to the airport tomorrow (Tuesday 28th July) as we are not operating flights to these destinations.

"This advice also applies to customers travelling to any of our destinations in Mainland Spain.

“We will be operating our scheduled programme of flights back to the UK from these destinations tomorrow.

“This is an extremely fast-moving situation, and we will provide a further update tomorrow.”

The airline says it will contact customers currently in Spain to advise them of their options - and says it urges customers not to contact them.

Customers set to fly to mainland Spain on the 17th August or later will receive an update on their booking once Jet2 has further information from the government.
