TUI cancels holidays to Spain and Greece until mid-June due to travel uncertainty

TUI has cancelled holidays to Spain and Greece amid uncertainty over international travel from Scotland.

The holiday firm said that trips to eight destinations across the globe have now been cancelled until June 13, the Mirror reports.

A decision was made on the cancellations yesterday - a day before changes to the Scottish Government’s traffic light system were confirmed.

The travel firm already confirmed cancelled holidays to nine destinations until June 27 - including the likes of Bulgaria and Turkey.

Scots holidaymakers impacted by the decision will be able to apply for a cash refund or change the date or destination of their holiday.

"We would like to thank our customers for their understanding at this time.”

Changes to Scotland's traffic light system on international travel were confirmed earlier today (PA)

The Scottish Government confirmed a series of changes to the traffic light system on international travel today - with Portugal being moved from the green list to amber.

Portugal was one of just 12 destinations where Scots could fly to and from without the need to quarantine.

A number of countries were also moved from the amber list to the red list amid concerns over the Delta variant of Covid, which was previously referred to as the so-called Indian variant.

Scottish Transport Secretary Michael Matheson said: “We have been forthright from the outset that the traffic light system is designed to protect the safety of the people of Scotland and the continued progress we are making as we come out lockdown.

“International travel for holidaying purposes remains risky and subject to sudden change. We have said before people should think very carefully about travelling – and this latest development serves to underpin that advice – especially so given the prevalence and unpredictable nature of variants of concern.”
