TUI cancels even more holidays as countries ban UK travellers over Omicron variant

TUI has cancelled even more holidays after soaring coronavirus cases caused countries to shut their borders to UK travellers.

Due to the new Omicron variant, several European countries have tightened restrictions spelling disaster for holidaymakers with trips to Christmas markets and ski resorts planned.

Tour operator TUI has scrapped trips to Germany, with cruises due to depart in December no longer going ahead.

Germany became the latest European country to ban most travellers from the UK in a bid to slow the spread of the Omicron variant.

German nationals and residents will still be allowed to enter from the UK, but they must quarantine for two weeks regardless of a negative test.

UK travellers were also banned from entering France from this weekend and will no longer be allowed to visit the country for non-essential reasons.

TUI owns Crystal Ski holidays, which has cancelled departures to France for December 21, 28, and January 4.

The tour operator has also cancelled flights to La Palma until February 10, 2022 due to the ongoing volcanic eruption.

TUI wrote on its website: "We’re aware that the German Government have announced that from 23:01 on 19 December, only German citizens and residents may travel to Germany from the U.K.

"As a result, we’ve unfortunately had to cancel all TUI River Cruises sailings due to depart in December.

"We will be proactively contacting all impacted customers in departure date order to discuss their options.

"We would like to thank our customers for their understanding at this time.
