Tui cancel all flights to Spanish destination amid travel warning

Tui has issued an update on all flights to La Palma on the Canary Islands.

Travel to the Spanish destination has been disrupted since the volcano first erupted on September 19.

The situation in La Palma shows no sign of slowing down after 40 more tremors stuck on Sunday - and the flight operator has confirmed it has cancelled all flights to the area up to, and including, November 3.

The statement said: "Due to the ongoing situation we’ve unfortunately had to cancel all flights to La Palma departing up to and including 3 November 2021. All impacted customers will be contacted directly to discuss their options."

However, there was more positive news for holidaymakers looking to travel to other population destinations within the region.

It continued: "We’d like to reassure customers due to travel to any other Canary Islands that our flights are currently operating as planned however we will continue to monitor the situation and contact them should their holiday be impacted.

"We’d like to thank our customers for their patience and understanding during this time."

La Palma airport has been forced to close at various points since the eruption.

The advice on the airport's website currently warns: "All Canarian airports are operational. There are airlines that are suspending their flights to / from La Palma.

"If you plan to fly, confirm the status of your flight with your airline."

This guidance is currently reiterated by the official UK government's official travel advice.

The full advice reads: "If you are in an affected area you should follow the advice of local authorities, including social media updates from Cabildo de La Palma.

"If you are planning to travel to the island imminently you are encouraged to contact your tour operators / airlines."
