TUI boss issues warning of flight cancellations amid Omicron variant fears

TUI bosses have warned that they could be the next airline to cancel flights as the new Covid variant spreads throughout Europe.

This comes after Ryanair was forced to cancel hundreds of flights as Morocco banned flights from the UK until February next year.

TUI Group chief executive Fritz Joussen released the firm's full year report and admitted there may be changes to flights.

He said: "There will be flexibility in deciding whether to offer winter programme capacity at the lower end of the range depending on the so-called fourth corona wave and possible policy decisions with regard to the Omicron variant.

"Capacity plans are regularly reviewed and adjusted."

TUI has reviewed its flight schedule as the UK Government reviewed travel rules every three weeks.

Throughout the pandemic we have seen airlines update routes and cancel flights as the traffic light system changed regularly.

However, TUI do point out they had a 'successful summer' and expect 2022 to return to pre-pandemic booking levels.

The report also highlighted that the way people are booking is changing. More holidaymakers are looking for travel deals and is booking trips later with shorter notice.

Jetsetters have been warned that travel rules can change quickly and to be prepared for that.

Most recently, Scotland reintroduced countries to the red list and enforced travel rules onto fully vaccinated travellers coming into Scotland.

Now, fully vaccinated people must take a PCR pre-departure test, a day two PCR test and isolate until they get a negative result.

Those who aren't vaccinated must do the same with the inclusion of a day eight and isolate for 10 days.
