TUI announces return of direct Bristol Airport flights to Sharm El Sheikh

A direct flight route to an Egyptian resort town is relaunching from Bristol Airport next year.

Holiday provider TUI has announced flights to Sharm El Sheikh will be back on sale tomorrow (November 7) with flights departing Bristol Airport from May 2020.

The area has a breath-taking scenic landscape, year-round dry climate with hot summers and warm winters as well as its long stretches of beautiful natural beaches and clear seas.

It also offers excellent opportunities for fans of water sports such as scuba diving and snorkelling in its coral reefs.

Direct flights to Sharm El Sheikh from Bristol were cancelled in May 2017 after the Foreign Office warned of the threat of terrorism.

Only now, more than two years later, have they been reintroduced.

Bristol Airport resumed its flights to several Egyptian resorts in January 2018, but not to Sharm El Sheikh 'as a precautionary measure'.

Mark Hall, TUI's Director of Product and Destination Experience, said: "At TUI we’re committed to offering our customers an outstanding choice of holidays across the globe.

"Sharm el Sheikh was always a hugely popular destination and I am delighted to confirm that we are reintroducing the Egypt favourite to our summer 2020 programme.

"In response to customer demand, our first flights will operate from Bristol in May 2020 and our resorts are all looking forward to welcoming our customers back with a smile."

Resorts including TUI Magic Life Sharm El Sheikh and Reef Oasis Blue Bay along the Red Sea coast will be on sale, with more hotel announcements in the pipeline.

The return to Sharm El Sheikh gives customers even more choice of high quality winter sun and summer breaks.

Nigel Scott, Business Development Director at Bristol Airport, said: "It shows the strength of demand in the region and TUI’s commitment to Bristol Airport reintroducing the Sharm El Sheikh flights next year.

"This destination will be a firm favourite with customers and again extends the choice available to customers."

Last week German airline Lufthansa announced plans to run a twice-daily flight to Frankfurt from Bristol from March 30, 2020.
