TUI announces new direct flights from Newcastle Airport to Egypt and Cape Verde

North East holidaymakers will have new destinations to choose from as TUI announces new flights from Newcastle to Egypt and Cape Verde.

People can book flights and holidays from Newcastle International Airport to Sal, Cape Verde’s most popular island for visitors, and Egyptian resort Sharm-el-Sheikh.

Staring from November 2023, TUI is adding these two weekly flights as part of its winter season. Sal, a new destination from Newcastle Airport, is referred to as the African Caribbean. It boasts sunshine, long white sandy beaches and colourful towns.

Often compared to the likes of Jamaica and the Dominican Republic, Sal is a popular paradise island for visitors in Cape Verde. Weekly flights depart on Tuesdays, from November 7.

Meanwhile, Sharm-el-Sheikh, on Egypt’s Red Sea coastline, offers clear waters, coral reefs, sheltered sandy beaches and warm weather year-round. Direct flights to Sharm-el-Sheikh provide more choice to Egypt in addition to existing flights to Hurghada. Starting with weekly flights from November 1, this service will increase to twice-weekly from March 25, 2024.

Leon McQuaid, director of aviation development at Newcastle International Airport, said: "We are delighted that TUI have announced these hugely sought after and popular holiday destinations, further evidencing their commitment to the region and to the airport. The addition of Sal, Cape Verde and Sharm-el-Sheikh, Egypt adds even more choice to people in the North East looking for guaranteed winter sun at great value."

Andrew Flintham, managing director of TUI UK and Ireland, added: "Our African destinations have gone from strength to strength and are a very important part of our holiday programme. We’re a longstanding partner of Newcastle International Airport so I am delighted we can offer people in the North East further choice with new weekly flights to Sharm-el-Sheikh, Egypt and Sal, Cape Verde.

"We’re seeing strong demand for travel, with bookings suggesting that customers are keen to plan far in advance for their perfect holiday and both these destinations offer excellent value and an outstanding selection of quality resorts. With these new winter routes and the recent addition of 1,500 more hotels for UK customers to choose from next summer, our commitment to continue delivering award winning winter and summer holidays to our customers in the region is a long term one."

Flights are on sale now. Customers can book their holiday at tui.co.uk or by contacting their local travel agent.

When ChronicleLive checked, return flights from Newcastle to Sal were priced at nearly £580 in November. And return tickets to Sharm-el-Sheikh were priced between £506 and £536 during November. You can search for more flights, holidays and prices here.
