TUI and British Airways issue latest advice for holidays in August and September

TUI and British Airways have issued advice for holidaymakers who are planning on travelling abroad in August or September.

As countries respond to the COVID-19 pandemic, including travel and border restrictions, the Foreign and Commonwealth Office advises British nationals against all but essential international travel.

Many airlines have grounded their flights, with only limited services running.

Brits have seen their holidays, cruises and trips abroad cancelled, as the travel industry faces its toughest period yet.

MyLondon spoke to British Airways and TUI to find out what they think people hoping to go on holiday in August and September should do.

British Airways

British Airways, which offers both flights and package holidays, has made it clear it wants to make life as easy for customers as it can.

Firstly, it urges that given how fast moving the current situation is that you check updates regarding your specific flight on the BA website.

If your flight has already been cancelled or you are due to travel between now and July 31 you can claim a voucher to the value of your booking.

But what about if your flight has yet to be cancelled?

BA has a Book With Confidence policy which passengers are directed to if they ask about their flight - but the web page has no information about what's going on any further than July 31.

Strangely, part of the policy states that if you booked between March 3 and May 31 with a departure date up to December 31, 2020 you can change your booking dates - but if you were organised and booked further in advance this doesn't apply.

TUI

TUI offers a 'travel promise' to customers, allowing them extra flexibility in their bookings, but again this only relates to holidays before July 11.

When asked about holidaymakers approaching the deadline to pay the final balance of their holidays a TUI UK spokesperson said: "We appreciate that customers may be feeling apprehensive about paying their final balance. If customers don’t continue with payments unfortunately the holiday will be cancelled.

"We’d like to reassure customers that all of our package holidays are ATOL protected, so they can pay the balance with confidence.

"If the holiday has to be cancelled a refund credit incentive or cash refund option will be given."
