Bungling jewellery thief snared after eagle-eyed boss spots stolen items in social media pics

Taylor Thomson admitting stealing from the jewellers whilst employed at the Princes Street store (UGC)

A bungling thief who stole almost £2000 of luxury goods from a swanky Scots jewellery store was caught after her boss spotted her wearing the goods in social media pictures. Taylor Thomson fell under suspicion after an internal audit at Fraser Hart in Edinburgh discovered that several items were missing from their inventory in February this year.

Store manager Emma Davidson concluded that the items must have been pinched by an employee and began scouring online accounts belonging to staff in a hunt for clues. After noticing ‘similar looking items’ being worn by Thomson in photographs, she called police who later cautioned and charged the 22-year-old.

Thomson, who now works as make-up artist at a concession counter in Harrods, appeared in the dock at Edinburgh Sheriff Court on Friday where she admitted stealing a number of items from the jewellers. This included a £1250 stainless steel Swiss watch, a silver bracelet worth £155, a pair of 9ct yellow gold hoop-style earrings with a £205 price tag and a white gold diamond necklace costing £305.

The goods were pinched between June and October 2021 while Thomson worked at the Princes Street store. Fiscal depute Duncan McKenzie told the court: “Between the 14th of February and the 18th of February 2022, an audit was conducted for stock inventory at the locus.

Outrage as Straight Pride poster promoting 'normal people' shown pinned to Scots church door

A Straight Pride poster promoting 'normal people' sparked outrage after it was found pinned to the front door of a church in Glasgow. A member of the public claims to have removed the offensive poster after spotting it on the front door of the Cathcart Congregational Church on Monday. It is unknown who placed the poster there.

The cartoon image depicts a man and a woman with their three children and is emblazoned with the slogan 'Straight Pride'. The message written below the graphic reads: "Because you wouldn't be here without normal people."

The drawing appears to suggest that heterosexual couples and families are "normal people". Resident Clau Dia shared an image of the poster on a community Facebook page, after explaining how she came across the 'ridiculous and homophobic' flyer.

Glasgow toddler found 'playing with battery' in flat by health visitor just eight months before death

A Scots toddler was found playing with a battery by a health visitor, a probe into her death heard today. Lauren Wade had the "poisonous" item in her hand when Irene Soley, 77, visited her parents' flat in Glasgow's Sighthill in June 2014.

Miss Soley added that the flat was also in disarray which prompted a further visit with a social worker. Two-year-old Lauren died eight months later after she was left to starve to death by mum Margaret Wade, 41, and Marie Sweeney, 40.

A judge heard how Lauren went without proper food or care for months and was riddled with thousands of head lice. A "skinny and dirty" Lauren had a sodden nappy, bald patches and thousands of head lice.

A post mortem revealed the toddler had been the victim of “severe neglect”. Wade and Sweeney were jailed in 2019 for six years and four months each.

The duo - who had been accused of killing Lauren - pled guilty to the reduced charge of neglecting the toddler between June 2014 and March 2015.

Abandoned boat on M8 leads to partial closure of Kingston Bridge amid traffic chaos

The boat looked like a fish out of water on the Kingston Bridge (Police Scotland)

Motorists were forced to swerve an abandoned boat after it was left blocking part of one of Scotland's busiest bridges. Emergency services were called to reports of an aquatic vehicle blocking part of the Kingston Bridge in Glasgow at around 12.44 pm.

Road traffic officers closed one lane of the motorway while the boat was recovered. They have since confirmed that the road has fully re-opened.

Authorities believe that the owner of the boat and trailer may have forgotten to attach a breakaway cable. Road Policing Scotland wrote in a statement on social media: "Please make sure your trailer is secure before starting your journey and attach the breakaway cable. This boat nearly made it to the Clyde - but it ended up blocking a live lane on the Kingston Bridge, Glasgow and required the assistance of Glasgow Road Policing."
