The Dog Rescuers With Alan Davies
8pm, Channel 5

Dogs in need of help, a big shaggy Alan Davies, and a load of tinkly tragi-music are a powerful combination. Yes, it’s a new series of The Dog Rescuers, which looks at the work of RSPCA officers as they help neglected pets and those in need. This time around, there’s a rottweiler in trouble after becoming stranded on the mudflats of the river Dee in Merseyside. On a lighter note, an over-frisky spaniel is sent to a specialist dog trainer to see if they can calm it down. Hannah Verdier

Eurovision Song Contest 2015: Semi-Final 1
8pm, BBC3

This is now the 60th Eurovision song contest, and it’s become a more highly evolved thing than the faintly camp event casual observers may remember. In a competition with an annual subtitle that sounds like a tagline for a sci-fi movie (this year is Building Bridges, last year the more menacing Join Us), tonight sees the first of two semi-finals. Mel Giedroyc and Scott Mills host, while UK contestants Electro Velvet drop by to share their thoughts. The second semi is on Thursday. John Robinson

Critical
9pm, Sky1

Final episode of the surgical thriller starring Lennie James and written by Line Of Duty’s Jed Mercurio. The Glen/Tom/Fiona love triangle catches Glen with its pointy end tonight after Tom and Fiona’s engagement. Put it this way: you wouldn’t want to be his next patient. Then an unexpected thing happens, and Glen and Fiona must put their love troubles aside to attend an emergency. Cue more close-up rummaging in prosthetic guts and meaningful looks. Not Mercurio’s best work, but a cut above other medical sagas. Julia Raeside

No Offence
9pm, Channel 4

Paul Abbott’s police procedural continues with an episode that finds racial tensions simmering. It’s all because of an attack on an Asian woman that appears to have been racially motivated. Will an undercover operation bring a suspect to justice? Meantime, DI Viv Deering (played by Joanna Scanlan as a kind of gruff-but-sensitive auntie) and her team are back on the serial killer investigation. This takes on new urgency because psychologist Dr Peep (Kate O’Flynn) thinks the murderer may strike again. Jonathan Wright

24 Hours In The Past
9pm, BBC1

Final episode of this silly series, which has purported to reflect life in Victorian Britain by subjecting celebs to a facsimile of 19th-century squalor. Previous episodes have seen the cast challenged to cope with life in a reconstructed rubbish dump, an inn and a pottery. Tonight, the six –Ann Widdecombe, Alistair McGowan, Colin Jackson, Miquita Oliver, Zoe Lucker and Tyger Drew-Honey – are dispatched to the workhouse. Not for the first time, Widdecombe adapts pluckily to the Victorian era, possibly because she’s never really left it. Andrew Mueller

Blinging Up Baby: You Won’t Believe It!
9pm, Channel 5

Following a controversial one-off special that sparked numerous complaints to Ofcom, this three-part series sees more airtime given to the mums who have turned their kids into canvases for fake tan and endless diamante. In this opener we meet mum-of-three Lisa Marie, who is keen for her daughters to become pageant queens, and Candi, whose six-year-old is already a makeup whizz. It’s easy to scoff at the tackiness of it all, but ultimately it showcases the sad reality of vicarious living. Hannah J Davies

The Big Fish Off
11.10pm, ITV

A return for the competitive angling show, with pairs of famous faces invited to the riverbank to share some sandwiches with team captains Ali Hamidi and Dean Macey. Tentatively positioning canvas fishing chairs on the riverbank this week are Towie star and anglerphile Mick Norcross, and actor/reluctant rodsmith Tamer Hassan. Likely to leave the majority of viewers reeling in their remote in search of a viewing alternative, but a welcome treat for those who could happily spend an entire evening talking utter carp. Mark Jones
