HOUSTON — Left-hander Tucker Davidson is the Braves’ next man up.
Davidson replaced starter Charlie Morton (broken fibula) on the World Series roster, MLB announced before Game 2 on Wednesday. Morton was injured during his Game 1 start Tuesday, ending his postseason.
The 25-year-old Davidson made his major league debut earlier this season, most recently pitching June 15. He had a 3.60 ERA across four starts, including two scoreless outings over 11 2/3 combined innings.
Davidson earned an extended stay in the rotation but was derailed by left forearm inflammation that prevented him from making another MLB appearance. He rehabbed at the team’s spring training complex. Davidson pitched for Triple-A Gwinnett on Oct. 3, allowing one run over three innings.
The Braves will rely heavily on their bullpen in Game 4 and, if necessary, Game 5. A healthy Davidson gives them another multi-inning option. They also have Jesse Chavez, Drew Smyly and Kyle Wright to cover bulk innings.
