Tucker Carlson says 'inspiring' Piers Morgan was right not to apologise to Meghan Markle

Piers Morgan's comments about not believing Meghan Markle in her explosive interview with Oprah Winfrey continue to divide opinion.

US motormouth Tucker Carlson is the latest celebrity to back the 55-year-old following his decision to quit Good Morning Britain.

Piers left ITV's morning show on Tuesday after over 41,000 people complained to Ofcom about his comments.

However, the Fox News presenter has praised "our friend" for his refusal "to let the mob make him lie".

His comments come after Piers told reporters on Wednesday: "If I have to fall on my sword for expressing an honestly held opinion about Meghan Markle and that diatribe of bilge that she came out with in that interview, so be it."

He had earlier tweeted that he had taken the time to reflect and still didn't believe the accusations made by the Duchess of Cornwall.

He continued: "Freedom of speech is a hill I'm happy to die on," before ending the message "I'm off to spend more time with my opinions".

Tucker responded positively by telling his US audience: "He left his job on the British morning show after failing to be sufficiently impressed by that whiny duchess from LA complaining about how hard her life is.

"Now Piers Morgan knew what the script was supposed to be - 'oh, you poor oppressed duchess' - but he refused to read it, so now he's unemployed."

The American compared Piers' actions favourably to those of Mumford & Sons' Winston Marshall who has apologised and stepped back from the band following the backlash after her endorsed a controversial book.

Tucker continued: "So Winston Marshall is leaving his job - another victory for the fascists on the internet.

"That's one way to handle attacks on speech, just surrender: that's what most famous people do. You see it every day."

The comments follow Sharon Osbourne's heated debate on US talk show The Talk in which she once again defended Piers for sharing his opinion.
