Tucker Carlson calls Trump foe ‘very charming’ after breaking with the US president

  • Tucker Carlson , on his podcast The Tucker Carlson Show, described California Governor Gavin Newsom as “unbelievable” and “very charming” while discussing him being the likely Democratic party nominee in 2028.
  • Carlson was speaking with podcaster and political commentator Jimmy Dore when Dore praised Newsom for having “the gift of the gab” to which Carlson responded: “Oh, he’s unbelievable. He’ll say literally anything, and he’s fun to talk to. He’s very charming, I will say.”
  • They then compared Newsom’s speaking abilities to Obama, with Dore saying: “I would feel better after Obama gave a speech. I feel good, and I know he’s full of it, and I would feel better. It’s weird. He has that.” Dore had earlier criticized Newsom for vetoing bipartisan homelessness legislation in California, likening the state under his leadership to “one party rule” with more street crime.
  • Carlson questioned if Newsom was any different than established Democratic figures like Chuck Schumer and Nancy Pelosi, to which Dore responded that he was not, implying Newsom represents the party's mainstream.
  • Carlson is one of several former MAGA firebrands who have broken with Trump during the president’s second term and has gone so far as to apologize for his role in campaigning for his former ally.
