To the surprise of no one, Fox News host Tucker Carlson announced the booking of Kyle Rittenhouse almost immediately after the teen gunman was cleared in the killing of two Black Lives Matter protesters and the shooting of a third.
The controversial Carlson will welcome Rittenhouse to his Monday night prime-time show.
Part of Carlson’s chat with the 18-year-old shooter will air on the heavily viewed program “Tucker Carlson Tonight.” Other segments of their discussion will air in December on the Fox News streaming service, where Carlson debuted his highly controversial “Patriot Purge” series earlier this month.
That three-part special — packed with conspiracy theories — took a sympathetic look at right-wing extremists tied to the Jan. 6 rally in Washington D.C. that led to insurrectionists at the U.S. Capitol.
Fox News said in a statement that the Rittenhouse “documentary” airing on its streaming service will include a behind-the-scenes look at the freshly acquitted teenager’s successful legal defense.
Carlson has on several occasions undermined the existence of white supremacy, including on his Friday night show when he said “Whatever that is.”
By reason of self-defense, Rittenhouse was found not guilty of murdering the two unarmed men he fatally shot during an August 2020 BLM demonstration in Kenosha, Wis. He has been since been lionized by right-wing media outlets and conservative lawmakers.
Other than testifying in his trial, Rittenhouse has been quiet about the events that transpired the night of the killings.
