It’s always nice to tuck into a big hearty meal especially when the weather has turned cool as it has recently here on Merseyside.
And combining a meal out with a brisk walk is a pretty good way to spend a weekend many would agree.
Whether you get your steps in before eating to work up an appetite, or head out after to help your food settle down, there’s nothing better than coming home to a warm house having enjoyed a bite to eat and a good dose of fresh air.
Here in Liverpool there’s a pub where you can easily combine both activities, in a tucked away location. Known as ‘The Pub in the Park’ Allerton Hall Farm pub is a pretty sight as you drive up, surrounded by a huge green space with picnic tables for those warmer days.

The pub, on Springwood Avenue, is near Woolton and surrounded by Clarke Gardens, where you can enjoy a woodland walk along a public footpath that runs right around the pub. It’s not the longest of routes, so is suitable for young children who can put their wellies on and enjoy spotting squirrels and collecting acorns.
If you want to enjoy a longer walk, you can head out of Springwood Avenue and across Woolton Road into Allerton Towers, where you will find a larger green space with pretty pathways, and a children’s play area.
Allerton Farm Hall pub has a carvery which you can order from between 11.30am and 8pm each day. It also has another menu with options including burgers, pies, nachos and sandwiches, plus it serves a buffet breakfast where you can help yourself to sausages, bacon, black pudding, hash browns and more.
The pub is open from 9am to 10pm Monday to Friday and 8am to 10pm Saturday to Sunday, with food service finishing at 9pm each day.
