Tuchel gives Aubameyang verdict amid Arsenal transfer stance rumours

Thomas Tuchel has already given his verdict on Arsenal striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang amid rumours that Chelsea are on the hunt for a striker.

Reports have suggested that the German will aim to bolster his forward line this summer with Timo Werner enduring a difficult debut season.

One of the contenders for a transfer to Stamford Bridge has emerged as Gunners captain Aubameyang, who Tuchel coached in his time at Borussia Dortmund, according to The Telegraph.

He plundered an eye-watering 79 goals in 95 games over two full seasons under the current Chelsea head coach as the pair lifted the DFB-Pokal.

It’s clear then that each of them know how the other operates and Tuchel has already hailed the striker’s influence and goal-scoring talents ahead of a potential move this summer.

Talking last month, Tuchel said: “Back in the days at Dortmund, it was a pure pleasure to have him in the squad. Auba was a fantastic striker, a fantastic finisher on the pitch.

“But more than that, he was a fantastic worker off the pitch. I think he did not miss one single training in two years.

“Yeah, it was a very reliable relationship because he delivered an unbelievable amount of goals, his speed was unique in Bundesliga and he was a crucial player.

“It was a pleasure to work with him, always a smile on his face, very, very honest guy. A bit of a crazy guy, but this is nice crazy.”

After leaving Dortmund, Aubameyang continued to be as lethal as ever, scoring 85 goals in 148 games for Arsenal despite suffering a lacklustre 2020/21 campaign.

The forward still has two years left to run on his contract at the Emirates Stadium.
