This is the moment a Tube driver was recorded knitting and watching videos on their phone while driving a carriage on the London underground.
The driver was filmed in action by a commuter at Hendon Central station in London in February 2025 when a Northern Line train was pulling out of the station.
As the commuter was waiting for another train, he spotted the driver casually knitting and watching videos on a phone while at the wheel, and took out his phone to record the incident.
The driver had a knitting loom emblazoned with a lion resting on his knee, and was seen in action sewing with a needle while pressing buttons to operate the train.
The man filming the incident on his phone said: "Knitting... watching TV [on a mobile phone]... £45k a year, goes on strike whenever he wants."
Speaking afterwards, he reflected: "I was so surprised.
"I didn't expect to see someone meant to be at work being so casual about the job.
"Especially because at the time, there were Tube strikes going on so it felt mad they were complaining about the job then relaxing on it.
"And, although I don't know how automatic the system is for the tubes, I remember thinking that this person has the passengers' lives in their hands.
"It felt crazy that this driver wouldn't take that more seriously."
Transport for London (TfL) stated the driver in the video no longer works for them. A spokesman said: “This video was made earlier in the year.
“We carried out a full investigation and the person involved no longer works at TfL.”
