Tua Tagovailoa’s injury update ‘as positive as possible’

There is no denying the Indianapolis Colts will have their eyes on the quarterback class in the 2020 NFL draft, which includes Alabama’s Tua Tagovailoa.

With the uncertainty surrounding Jacoby Brissett’s abilities to be a long-term option for the Colts, they will be looking at all of the options in the draft. Tagovailoa is one of the top options in the draft even with some concern about the fractured hip that ended his final collegiate season.

Tagovailoa got an update about the injury on Monday, and it was some encouraging news for the prospect quarterback, per NFL.com.

The Alabama quarterback’s three-month CT scan on his fractured hip was as positive as possible, revealing a healed hip, NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport reported, per sources informed of the situation. The hip and its range of motion is good, but it’ll likely be another month before Tagovailoa is cleared for football activities, Rapoport added.

Tagovailoa suffered the gruesome injury, which also put some concern into his draft stock early in the process. But if he continues to progress like this, there shouldn’t be any worry for teams looking to make him their first-round selection.

The Colts sit at No. 13 in the first round. That’s likely too far back to have a shot at the Alabama product. If the Colts feel Tagovailoa is the piece they need, they will have to trade up all the way to No. 4. Both the Miami Dolphins (No. 5) and the Los Angeles Chargers (No. 6) will be looking to grab a quarterback in this year’s draft.

There is still a long way to go during the draft process and the Colts might not even select one in the first round, but Tagovailoa’s status is worth monitoring over the next few months.
