Tua Tagovailoa appears to be gaining momentum ahead of the 2020 NFL draft.
Meaning, the Tagovailoa vs. Joe Burrow’s debate keeps heating up.
That’s an especially interesting conversation for the Cincinnati Bengals. Burrow seems like the surefire pick, but even ESPN’s Todd McShay has suggested Tagovailoa might actually be the better prospect.
Now NFL.com’s Bucky Brooks has joined those ranks, putting Tagovailoa over Burrow on his big board:
“Tagovailoa is the most talented QB1 in the class, with a game that makes him feel like a left-handed version of Drew Brees. Despite an injury history that could make some decision-makers pause, Tagovailoa’s A+ arm talent, athleticism and intangibles make him an intriguing option as a franchise quarterback. Burrow is coming off the best season by a quarterback in college football history. He is a high-IQ playmaker with outstanding rhythm as a passer. He throws with superb touch, timing and anticipation. He also flashes impressive movement skills as a runner.”
The big problem with Tagovailoa is the injury history now. He just got some really good news on the injury front, but we’ll see how it shakes out at combine medical checks.
Perhaps the biggest — and only notable — knock on Burrow right now is he only flashed this elite play over the course of one season. But even that doesn’t figure to sway how the Bengals feel about the Ohio kid.
As an aside, Tagovailoa’s agent made it pretty clear he doesn’t want his guy to go to the Bengals anyway.
