Tszyu brands world champion a 'pussy cat'

Undefeated in 20 Australian bouts, Tim Tszyu wants to fight in America next. (AAP)

Dismissing undefeated world champion Jermell Charlo as a "pussy cat", Australian boxing superstar Tim Tszyu remains adamant his next fight will be in America.

Tszyu's much-anticipated US debut was thrown into disarray last week when Charlo's scheduled winner-takes-all unified showdown with Brian Castano next month was cancelled.

As the mandatory challenger to Castano's WBO light middleweight title, Tszyu was to have fought the winner of the March 19 LA blockbuster provided he beat American Terrell Gausha in the co-main event.

But a training injury to Castano has left Tszyu "in limbo".

Tsyzu, who boasts a 20-0 record including 15 knockouts, has asked to replace Castano (19-0-2) and fight Charlo (18-1-1) for divisional global glory.

But, suspecting Charlo is running scared, the 27-year-old is resigned to having to continue biding his time, face Gausha (25-2-1) and wait for his opportunity.

"(I'm) not fazed at all. I'm still young so I've got plenty of time . Everything will take its place," Tszyu said at No Limit Boxing's 2022 launch in Sydney on Tuesday night.

"March 19 is done. I will fight the same opponent (Gausha) the following weekend on a different show.

"I told the boys to make it happen and I'm just waiting for a date.

"I'm just ready to go to America, that's where I've always been dreaming about so I want to have a quality opponent in America."

Alas, Tszyu doubts Charlo has the courage to meet his challenger.

"Look, he calls himself 'lion's only - like a lion'. He's a little pussy cat. That's all he is and that's all I can say," Tszyu said.

"There could be political stuff involved with (stopping a fight against Charlo) but my main concern is to fight and not to sit around.

"Whoever, whenever but not wherever - in America."
