A magnitude-7.3 earthquake has struck east of Papua New Guinea.
The United States Geological Survey says the powerful quake struck just off the southern coast of the island of New Britain this morning.
The quake was preceded by two smaller quakes the day before, which struck the Papua New Guinea mainland.
The Pacific Tsunami Warning Centre says tsunami waves are possible within 300 kilometres of the epicentre.
