TSITP Hot Take: I Want Conrad To Give Belly The Rejection Therapy She Clearly Needs

tsitp-rant

Let me start by prefacing no, I am not team Jeremiah (Gavin Casalegno). If you asked me at the start of season three of The Summer I Turned Pretty, I’d respond with team Conrad (Christopher Briney), no hesitation. Now? I’m team get-the-fuck-out-of-there-and-away-from-Belly Conrad.

And unless Belly (Lola Tung) gets some incredible redemption arc by the season’s finale on 17 September, my opinion is staying firm.

Let’s recap, shall we?

(Spoilers ahead if you’re not up to date).

In the previous episode of The Summer I Turned Pretty (episode seven), Belly and Jeremiah had their hens and bucks nights. Belly got majorly drunk and started freaking out about the wedding, saying how she “only ever pictured Conrad”.

On Jeremiah’s bucks night, Conrad found out about how Jere cheated on Belly twice over spring break, right before they got engaged. When he went to confront his younger idiot brother, he found Jeremiah vomiting his guts out in the bathroom. So, Conrad retreated to the beach

Personally, I would’ve dunked Jeremiah’s head in the toilet but Conrad’s better than I am, I guess.

Belly goes to meet Jeremiah on the beach, who surprise, surprise, isn’t there.

Who is?

You guessed it, the better brother.

And when Conrad tells Belly what he heard about Jeremiah’s antics, followed by an Oscar-worthy declaration of love, the kind that deserves a standing ovation.

What does he get in response?

“You will never be what Jere is to me.”

Bye.

You mean after all that pining, after being centimetres away from kissing him in the bathroom, Belly ripped out his heart and smushed it into that god forsaken chocolate mirror glaze cake with the raspberry coulis?

After that scene of Belly acting like Jeremiah isn’t a frat boy treating her like an accessory and Conrad was the one who acted like Belly was dirt, my last shred of patience for her vanished.

I really hope after this, Conrad realises he’s too good for her. That he needs to stop putting his life on hold to appease Belly and book a damn flight out of Cousins.

Idk what’s thinner, Belly’s ring or my patience with Jeremiah. #tsip #tsipedit #tsipseason3 #lolatung #thesummeriturnedpretty

In fact, here’s my dream scenario:

Belly and Jere are at the altar, about to say their wedding vows.

Conrad excuses himself because he can’t watch, but he doesn’t want to object because of Belly’s nightmarish rejection of his confession on the beach. As Belly’s watching him, she realises she’s marrying the wrong brother, and runs off after Conrad with the classic “I can’t do this” line.

Once Belly catches up, she professes her love for Conrad (“it was you all along” vibes). Although something in Conrad changes. As he looks at her, he realises just how shitty she’s been to to him, wrapping him around her finger. He rejects her, saying he deserves better, and leaves her standing on the beach, just like how she left him.

She doesn’t ‘choose herself’ in the end, but she doesn’t end up with one of the brothers either.

ABSOLUTE CINEMA, RIGHT?

There are still four more episodes to go, and the wedding is looming, so I doubt this is gonna happen. But a girl can dream, right?

Even if it doesn’t go down the way I think it should, I’ll be happy as long as Belly doesn’t end up with Conrad.
