What’s new: China’s elite Tsinghua University is weighing whether to build temporary quarantine facilities on campus, as universities in the Covid-stricken capital look for ways to balance student needs with pandemic controls.
The university administration said it is studying the idea before making a final decision, according to a student who attended a school forum held Monday afternoon to address concerns about epidemic control measures.
Around 2,000 people attended the assembly either in person or online. The forum was presided over by the school’s deputy party secretary, Guo Yong.
What’s more: Tsinghua has also moved up the timetable for a program that provides students with a free trip to a train station or airport so they can return home for winter break. The university said, as of Monday, close to 2,000 people have signed up for the program, which runs from Tuesday to Sunday.
The school also said that admission exams for graduate programs will not be postponed, the student who attended the forum told Caixin.
The school detected one positive case in a mixed Covid testing sample Saturday and took temporary precautions, including controls on several buildings, including dormitories, before the student was identified and transferred for treatment.
Beijing reported 957 new confirmed infections and 3,429 asymptomatic cases for Monday.
