Truth about Christmas party drinking trick everyone swears by

Christmas is a time for eating, drinking and generally being merry, with many of us drinking champagne or prosecco to celebrate the occasion.

Lots of us will be popping a bottle of bubbly to say goodbye to 2020 which has been a year like no other.

But if you don't get through the whole bottle there is a way of keeping it fizzy for another day so it doesn't have to go to waste.

Some people believe the tip is a myth, but the technique does have some basis in science - reports the Express.

The trick is to drop a teaspoon into the bottle, with the spoon handle going into the neck to preserve the bubbles.

This preserves the fizz because the metal handle of the spoon helps to cool down down the air inside the bottle.

Colder air makes for more dense air, meaning it presses on the surface of the Champagne stopping the bubbles of air from escaping and leaving you with a flat drink.

A chef named Luis Bollo from Salinas has experimented with the method himself.

He told website Grub Street: “In Spain, we are the biggest consumers of cava and Champagne in the world.”

"My father and my grandfather, whatever cava was left over they just store it with the spoon from one day or the other.

“I don’t know what’s going on, but it works pretty well."
