Tom Ince's chances of proving his Nottingham Forest critics wrong this week took a hit after stinging comments from Luton Town manager Nathan Jones.
Ince, who is on a season-long loan from Stoke City, was taken off at half-time on Saturday as Jones turned to players he could 'trust' to spark them to a stunning comeback.
The Hatters were 2-0 down at the break with Ince one of three players replaced as they recovered to win 3-2 against Sheffield Wednesday, setting them up nicely for Tuesday's trip to the City Ground.
Jones used a post match interview to praise the performance after the break, while also hitting out at those who criticise him for his ill-fated stint as Stoke manager.
"Fair play to Wednesday. They were quick out the blocks and we were inept so we had to change something at half time," he said.
"We went back to a diamond which I have been much maligned for in my time at the bet365 Stadium.
"We were wonderful second half. We went to people I knew we could trust, people who have done it for and won promotions for this club, kept this club in the Championship.
"I just went back to that. What a wonderful second half."
Ince has made four appearances for Luton, starting twice, and is yet to register a goal or assist. The 29-year-old had a six-game loan stint with Forest in 2014.
He went on to join Forest's arch rivals Derby County, when he claimed his time at the City Ground was more successful than most Reds fans would accept.
"I started the first few games and got man of the match in a few of them but then found myself not playing," he said at the time.
"It got to a point where I thought, without sounding bad, 'what have I come here for'. In the beginning I thought the move was the right thing and at the end you think 'Okay. I will learn from it'.
"These things happen in football. It is not always an easy road, you know there will be rocky times."
