Trust behind proposed Lyde Green school seeking opinions from the local community

SGS Academy Trust are proposing that a new 11-16 secondary school is built in Lyde Green.

Opening in September 2022, this new school would cost £15-20m with an aim of supporting the growing community of Lyde Green as new housing developments are completed.

The new school will represent a departure from a typical secondary school in that it will access to the SGS Academy Trust and the SGS College to provide a full range of curriculum subjects. It will have a focus on digital and engineering technology.

SGS Parkfield will also be ‘Autism Friendly’ with the school building and environment designed and operated to ensure pupils with sutism are supported within a mainstream environment.

The school will work closely with the Bristol and Bath Science Park, local universities and major employers to bring the curriculum to life so that it aligns with the working world.

A spokesperson for SGS said: "It is our intention to ensure that all pupils are prepared for the world of work or further study when they leave the school after GCSEs.

"Impartial, independent careers education advice and guidance will form part of the offer with 100 per cent of school leavers securing a place at a local school or college sixth form, a college or into a workplace apprenticeship."

SGS is holding an open consultation meeting on Monday, September 30 at 7.30pm at The Bristol & Bath Science Park, Dirac Crescent, Emersons Green, South Gloucestershire, BS16 7FR.

Here people from the local community can have their say on the proposal.
