Trump’s team is pushing for a $250 bill with his face on it but there’s one massive problem

  • Under federal law, only deceased individuals are permitted to appear on U.S. currency, a regulation that has been in effect since 1866, posing a significant legal hurdle for the proposed bill.
  • Current and former employees of the Bureau of Engraving and Printing indicated that creating a new bill, especially one of such high value, typically takes six to eight years to produce.
  • Patricia Solimene, the director of the printing bureau, was reassigned from her role after reportedly explaining to officials that the $250 note was not statutorily authorized and would take years to produce.
