Trump v Biden US election battle officially THE biggest betting event of all time

The 2020 US election is officially the biggest single betting event of all time.

With just hours to go until the decision is announced, the election has already broken the record set by the 2016 poll.

Not the Grand National, the Super Bowl or the World Cup final.

More than £200million has been bet on the Betfair Exchange with more than £300m predicted to be staked by November 3.

Paddy Power have already taken more than double the amount of money on the 2020 election than Donald Trump vs Hillary Clinton four years ago.

Oddschecker shows that 57 per cent of bets have been for President Trump, with just 28 per cent staked on rival Joe Biden.

That may be because Biden is 1/2 favourite to become president and Trump 8/5 to secure a second term with thepools.com - but the current president was 10/3 to win in 2016 on the day of the election with Hillary Clinton 2/9 ..... and we all know what happened then.

Some punters got very rich that day ... others lost a fortune.

One London gambler placed a £200,000 bet on Donald Trump using online betting site Spreadex, and won half-a-million.

While John Mappin, who owns a castle in Cornwall, took home £100,000 after putting 30 bets on Mr Trump walking into the White House.

But on the flip side, William Hill said its largest bets included a London-based telephone client who staked £150,000 on Hillary Clinton becoming America's first female president, and a Durham woman who put £183,200 on Ms Clinton in a two-part wager.
