Trump UK visit: Stephen Colbert, Trevor Noah and other US late night hosts mock president

To no one’s surprise, American late night hosts mocked Donald Trump’s state visit to the UK last night (3 June).

The President of the United States arrived yesterday in England, Trump spending the day at Buckingham Palace with the Royal Family.

Stephen Colbert opened The Late Show by discussing the Queen’s present to the former The Apprentice host – a first edition of The Second World War by Winston Churchill.

Putting on a voice meant to be Trump, Colbert said: ”Look, thank you so much, but don’t tell me how it ends, all right. I really like that German Charlie Chaplin who invented the high five.”

Colbert then said: “This season of The Crown has really jumped the shark.”

The late night host added that both Ivanka Trump and her husband Jared Kushner had “no business” being on the trip.

Likewise, Trevor Noah opened his show joking about the Queen’s present to Trump.

“That’s right, the Queen’s gift to Donald Trump was a book,” he said. ”Either she doesn’t know Trump or she’s trolling him.

“Why would you give Donald Trump a book? Everyone knows the man doesn’t read.”

Noah went on to compare giving Trump a book to “giving Stevie Wonder a fish tank”.

He then showed a picture of Trump and Boris Johnson side-by-side, saying: “I’ve never seen two people who both look like failed clones of each other.”

Conan O’Brien decided to show footage from Trump’s day with the Queen, but added a fake voiceover from the Queen herself.

Trump’s state visit continues today with the president expected to meet the UK’s outgoing prime minister. Read here for all the latest updates.
