Trump tweets bizarre attack on Jeremy Corbyn as he rushes to Boris Johnson's defence

American President Donald Trump has bumbled into Britain's constitutional crisis - with a tweet attacking Jeremy Corbyn.

Trump rushed to the defence of his ally Boris Johnson , claiming he believed it would be "very hard" for the Labour leader to win a no confidence vote against the PM.

Mr Trump tweeted: "Would be very hard for Jeremy Corbyn, the leader of Britain's Labour Party, to seek a no-confidence vote against New Prime Minister Boris Johnson, especially in light of the fact that Boris is exactly what the U.K. has been looking for, & will prove to be 'a great one!' Love U.K."

Mr Corbyn has said he intends to bring a no confidence vote against Boris Johnson at the first practical opportunity, but has also committed with other opposition leaders in Parliament to pursue other ways to block a no-deal Brexit.

The Labour leader has also previously clashed with Mr Trump, joining protests against his State Visit to the UK earlier this year.

If Mr Corbyn can win the vote will depend on the actions of Remain supporting Tory rebels.

But his chances were given a boost today when former Attorney General Dominic Grieve said he would vote to bring down Mr Johnson's government in the wake of his plan to suspend parliament.

Earlier today the Prime Minister announced he would suspend Parliament from the start of September ahead of a Queen's Speech on October 15.

In response the former Attorney General said he would back bringing down the government.

Speaking on Radio 5Live Mr Grieve : "I don’t see how a Prime Minister who persists with this is going to find he is going to get to the 31 October still in office.

"There will be a vote of no confidence and his government will come down."
