Creepy maybe, but Sleepy Joe?
President Donald Trump gave Joe Biden a derisive new nickname as he welcomed the ex-vice president to the 2020 race with a tongue in cheek welcome tweet: "Welcome to the race Sleepy Joe. I only hope you have the intelligence, long in doubt, to wage a successful primary campaign. It will be nasty _ you will be dealing with people who truly have some very sick & demented ideas. But if you make it, I will see you at the Starting Gate!"
Trump wasted no time it seeking to tarnish Biden as the elder statesman joins the crowded Democratic field to unseat him.
But it wasn't exactly clear why Trump chose to brand Biden as "sleepy," instead of some other nasty dig.
Biden has been rocked in recent weeks by claims that he made women uncomfortable over the years by not respecting physical boundaries. One woman recalled him pressing up against her from behind and kissing her hair.
The onetime Delaware senator has also been prone to campaign trail gaffes and President Barack Obama's campaign team once famously shut him down after a series of embarrassing quips.
But Biden is a proven vote-getter and has a history of connecting with white working-class voters, the same demographic that pushed Trump to his shocking upset win in 2016.
