Trump to name Chad Wolf as acting DHS secretary

President Trump announced his nomination of Chad Wolf as acting secretary of the Department of Homeland Security on Friday.

The big picture: Wolf will succeed current acting secretary Kevin McAleenan, who officially ended his tenure on Thursday. McAleenan announced he was stepping down earlier this month amid ongoing tensions with the White House.

Wolf is a current senior department official and was nominated by Trump in February to serve as undersecretary for the Office of Strategy, Policy, and Plans.

Between the lines: Per a senior White House official, it's not expected that Wolf will be nominated for the permanent position.
