The White House is set to name Chad Wolf as acting secretary of the Department of Homeland Security, according to Politico and confirmed by Axios.
The big picture: Wolf will succeed current acting secretary Kevin McAleenan, who ended his tenure Thursday. McAleenan stepped down earlier this month amid ongoing tensions with the White House.
- Wolf is a current senior department official and was nominated by President Trump in February to serve as undersecretary for the Office of Strategy, Policy, and Plans.
Between the lines: Per a senior White House official, it's not expected that Wolf will be nominated for the permanent position.
