Trump to name Chad Wolf as acting DHS secretary

The White House is set to name Chad Wolf as acting secretary of the Department of Homeland Security, according to Politico and confirmed by Axios.

The big picture: Wolf will succeed current acting secretary Kevin McAleenan, who ended his tenure Thursday. McAleenan stepped down earlier this month amid ongoing tensions with the White House.

Wolf is a current senior department official and was nominated by President Trump in February to serve as undersecretary for the Office of Strategy, Policy, and Plans.

Between the lines: Per a senior White House official, it's not expected that Wolf will be nominated for the permanent position.
