U.S. President Donald Trump is expected to meet the Emperor on May 27, marking the Emperor's first meeting with a foreign leader since his enthronement on May 1, it has been learned.

The Yomiuri Shimbun obtained the schedule of Trump's state visit to Japan from May 25-28. According to Japanese government sources, Trump will arrive on Air Force One the evening of May 25.

He will play golf with Prime Minister Shinzo Abe at a golf course in Chiba Prefecture on May 26, their fifth time playing together.

In the afternoon, the two leaders will attend the final day of the Summer Grand Sumo Tournament at Ryogoku Kokugikan arena in Tokyo. After the final bout, Trump is expected to present a special trophy commissioned by the U.S. government to the winner of the tournament, according to sources.

After meeting the Emperor and Empress the morning of May 27, Trump will then sit down with Abe for their 11th summit talks at the State Guesthouse in Motoakasaka, Tokyo.

In addition to issues related to North Korea and China, the leaders are expected to discuss trade negotiations between their countries, which are ongoing at the ministerial level.

Trump will then meet the families of Japanese nationals abducted by North Korea to tell them that Japan and the United States will cooperate to resolve the abduction issue, the sources said.
