Trump tells Uganda people will not 'feel safe going there' until it finds kidnappers who took a US tourist

Donald Trump has told Uganda that tourists will not "feel safe" visiting the country until authorities find the kidnappers who took a US tourist and her guide from a national park.

"Uganda must find the kidnappers of the American Tourist and guide before people will feel safe in going there. Bring them to justice openly and quickly!" Mr Trump tweeted on Monday morning.

It comes after Ugandan officials confirmed on Sunday the pair - abducted from Elizabeth National Park last week - had been rescued

“Pleased to report that the American tourist and tour guide that were abducted in Uganda have been released. God bless them and their families!” the president tweeted at the time.

Kimberly Sue Endicott and her guide were captured during an evening game drive by an armed gang who demanded $500,000 (£383,427) in ransom for her safe release.

"Both were rescued from the Democratic Republic of the Congo and are safely back in Kanungu district in Uganda," Ofwono Opondo, a spokesperson for the Ugandan government, said in a statement.

It remains unclear if a ransom was paid in the case of Ms Endicott, who is from Costa Mesa, California, where she has a small skin care shop.

Mr Trump's demand of Uganda came amid a flurry of tweets in which he railed against attempts by Congress to gain access to his tax returns and Robert Mueller's now-completed investigation into whether his presidential campaign colluded with Russia.
