President Donald Trump has nominated Boeing executive Patrick Shanahan as deputy secretary of Defense.
The nomination of Shanahan, senior vice president for supply chains and operations at Boeing, was announced by the White House Thursday morning.
According to the White House, Shanahan previously oversaw profits and losses at Boeing Commercial Airplanes for the 737, 747, 767, 777 and 787 programs. Before that, he managed Boeing missile-defense and helicopter units.
Shanahan also is a University of Washington regent, appointed by then-Gov. Chris Gregoire in 2012.
A Washington state native, Shanahan graduated from the UW with a bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering. He also holds master's degrees in business administration and mechanical engineering from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, according to his UW bio.
