Donald Trump shared some strange details about First Lady Melania Trump’s underwear organization while talking about the 2022 FBI search of his Mar-a-Lago home at a rally. The 79-year-old president was speaking to voters in Rocky Mount, North Carolina, on Friday, December 19, ahead of the 2026 midterm elections. While discussing government policies and inflation, he suddenly switched topics to talk about the 2022 raid at his Palm Beach, Florida, resort.
According to Unilad, Trump told the crowd that FBI agents “went into my wife’s closet … they looked at her drawers.” But he didn’t stop there. He went on to describe in detail how organized the First Lady is with her belongings. He said his wife is extremely neat and explained how “Her undergarments, sometimes referred to as panties, are folded perfect, wrapped. They’re, like, so perfect.”
Then he added the detail that grabbed attention: “I think that she steams them.” That’s quite a level of care for underwear, whether she does it herself or a housekeeper handles it.

The FBI search happened in August 2022 as part of a criminal investigation into presidential records. The law says all presidential records must be handed over when a presidency ends. Earlier that year, the National Archives and Records Administration said that 15 boxes of documents were taken from the White House and kept at Mar-a-Lago.
After the search, the warrant became public and showed what investigators wanted. They were looking for evidence of possible obstruction of justice, destruction of records, or violations of the Espionage Act. During the operation, agents found 11 sets of classified materials, including documents marked ‘top secret’ that are normally only seen in secure government buildings. The First Lady has been making public appearances more confidently in recent months.

The investigation created major legal problems. Trump was charged by a federal grand jury in June 2023 for allegedly mishandling classified documents. He became the first US president to face federal criminal charges. He was arrested and appeared in a Florida federal court, where he pleaded not guilty.
More charges were added later, but the entire case was dismissed in July 2024. Despite the serious nature of what he was talking about, Trump’s rally speech mostly revealed how particular Melania is about organization.
