Trump suggests he could refuse to share US intelligence with Jeremy Corbyn

The United States could refuse to share intelligence with the UK under a Jeremy Corbyn-led government, Donald Trump has suggested.

The US President warned he would have to meet Labour's leader and "know him" before he could trust him with counter-terror operations.

And he said Mr Corbyn - who will boycott Mr Trump's State Banquet when he visits the UK tomorrow - was "probably making a mistake" in his approach.

Asked if the US would share the most secret intelligence with a Corbyn government, Trump told the Sunday Times: "I would have to know him. I would have to meet.

"I don’t know him but I would certainly — before I would answer that question I would have to get to know him a little bit."

But it was not good news for Theresa May either, as the President sounded a warning over what will happen if Huawei is allowed to work in the UK.

Theresa May prompted a Cabinet leak row and an international spat by reportedly being ready to let the Chinese firm build parts of a new 5G network.

Mr Trump said: "We have been very, very open with your country having to do with security measures and intelligence.

"That is why we say it is very important that they study that situation very carefully."

He added: "National security is so important, so we all have to be very careful together. And [the] UK understands that very well. Very well."

But Trump also sent a warning to Theresa May over Huawei (PA)

Despite the US holding intelligence-sharing over Britain's head, it was in fact the UK that stopped sharing some information with Washington in 2017.

Police investigating the Manchester Arena terror attack stopped sharing intelligence on it after detailed crime scene photos were leaked to US media.
