Trump spokesman dismisses Illinois governor's inauguration snub

CHICAGO _ President-elect Donald Trump's spokesman, asked Friday about Illinois Gov. Bruce Rauner's plan to skip the inauguration, said there will be no "shortage of Republicans, independents and Democrats that will line the Mall to welcome in the next president and see real change to come to America."

Spokesman Sean Spicer also was asked by the Chicago Tribune whether the governor of the country's fifth-largest state being a no-show will have negative implications moving forward with Rauner and the state.

Spicer, speaking during his weekday call with reporters, did not address that question directly.

But he did say: "One of the things that you've seen from the president-elect in terms of the meetings that he's held and the people that he's sought their advice and opinions from is that obviously he wants to bring everyone in America together. He wants the best and brightest ideas to help make this country better.

"And look, I think there has been an unbelievable demand for people to attend the inauguration," he said. "We have had endless requests."
