Trump seeks sanctions for Democrats over Russian conspiracy suit

SAN FRANCISCO _ President Donald Trump is using the Mueller report to take the offensive against Democrats suing him for scheming with Russia to interfere in the 2016 presidential election.

Special counsel Robert Mueller's final report has "definitively refuted" that there was a conspiracy to steal information from the Democratic National Committee, lawyers for Trump's campaign said, asking a federal judge Tuesday to dismiss the DNC's lawsuit and make the Democrats pay his legal bills.

"The Special Counsel's Report refutes many of the factual contentions that the DNC set forth including the key allegations upon which the DNC predicates its claims that the campaign conspired or otherwise coordinated with Russia in the effort to steal and publish DNC materials," according to the letter.

The DNC claims that Trump, the Russian Federation, WikiLeaks and members of the Trump campaign and White House violated U.S. racketeering, computer fraud and other laws by conspiring to hack emails from committee computers and leak them in advance of the 2016 election in a "brazen attack on American democracy."
