Trump says the world should be thankful that he ‘stopped’ an Iranian ‘nuclear holocaust’ twice

Donald Trump has said that the world should be “thankful” that the US prevented a “nuclear holocaust” with military action taken in Iran.

Speaking at the Oval Office during a meeting with Irish Taoiseach Micheál Martin on Tuesday (17 March), the US president said that he was disappointed in NATO members for failing to take action against Tehran.

Mr Trump claimed that he has stopped Iran from twice gaining nuclear capabilities. He said the first instance was when he pulled out of the Iran Nuclear Deal in 2018. “ If I didn't terminate that deal, uh, unbelievable nuclear holocaust would've taken place,” he said.

He also spoke about the US military attacking three nuclear facilities in June last year. “I believe it would've been a much different world than it is right now,” he said, had the strikes not gone ahead.
