Trump says sacked FBI director 'was not doing a good job'

WASHINGTON _ President Donald Trump said Wednesday his reason for firing FBI Director James Comey was simple: "Because he was not doing a good job."

Trump's comments to reporters in the Oval Office, as he sat beside former Secretary of State Henry Kissinger, were his first in public since Comey's abrupt dismissal Tuesday evening.

The meeting with Kissinger, which Trump said was to discuss Russia "and various other matters," had not been initially listed on the president's public schedule.

It followed immediately after the president met with Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov and Ambassador to the United States Sergey Kislyak.

Trump told reporters he had a "very, very good meeting" with the Russian minister and said both countries were working to end the "horrible, horrible killing in Syria as soon as possible."
