Trump says Israel has agreed to Gaza truce and urges Hamas to accept

  • US President Donald Trump has claimed that Israel has agreed to a 60-day ceasefire in Gaza and urged Hamas to accept the deal.
  • The proposed agreement would see a pause in fighting, during which time Israel and Hamas would negotiate for a permanent end to the war and a framework for post-war governance in Gaza.
  • Mr Trump made the announcement ahead of hosting Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
  • Qatari and Egyptian officials are expected to deliver the final proposal, following reports that Israel has accepted the Qatari plan and is ready for indirect negotiations with Hamas.
  • Despite Mr Trump's announcement, it remains unclear if Hamas is prepared to agree to the terms. The conflict continues to cause significant casualties and displacement in Gaza.
