Trump says Great American State Fair kickoff will be ‘biggest rally we’ve ever had’

  • President Donald Trump is preparing to headline an event Wednesday on the National Mall to commemorate the start of the Great American State Fair as part of America’s 250th anniversary, an event that has become his personal political spectacle.
  • The celebration, which Trump vowed will be the “biggest rally we’ve ever had,” is expected to feature a military flyover, military bands, a performance by singer Lee Greenwood and a speech from Trump himself, with country singer Alexis Wilkins also confirmed to perform.
  • The Great American State Fair has seen a series of setbacks. Several musicians canceled their appearances, which led Trump to announce his direct participation.
  • The fair, from June 25 to July 10, opens as Trump seeks to improve his political standing ahead of crucial November midterm elections, despite his approval rating dwelling at a low 37% and criticism from Democrats regarding the event's politicization and spending on 'vanity projects.'
  • Experts suggest that while past rallies have helped Trump mobilize supporters, this event, occurring more than four months before the midterm elections, is unlikely to provide a significant strategic political benefit for Republicans.
