Trump says deal will be made on Strait of Hormuz after calling off ‘WW2-level strikes’

  • Donald Trump announced that peace talks with Iran would take place on Monday.
  • He cancelled what he described as Second World War-level strikes against Iran, telling reporters aboard Air Force One: “It was going to be a massive attack.”
  • The decision to call off the attacks was made following requests from Gulf allies, including Saudi Arabia , the UAE , and Qatar , as well as unnamed Iranian officials.
  • Trump said a deal will be reached on the Strait of Hormuz and an agreement to denuclearise Tehran will follow.
  • Oil prices, specifically Brent crude futures, sank over 6 per cent to $82.41 after Trump said talks with Iran will happen today.
