President Donald Trump just can't say anything nice about Mitt Romney.
The president sarcastically cheered his Republican rival Monday for joining an anti-racism protest march in Washington, D.C. a day earlier.
"Tremendous sincerity, what a guy," Trump tweeted about Romney, making no secret of his disdain.
Trump claimed that Romney has suffered in polls in his home state of Utah, without offering any evidence.
Romney, the 2012 Republican presidential nominee, marched with a group of mostly evangelical Christians denouncing racism and calling for justice for George Floyd.
He won widespread praise across the political spectrum for speaking out, especially when most Republican leaders are keeping silent to avoid sparking Trump's ire.
Romney sought to work with Trump early in his presidency, but they have become fierce rivals. Romney, citing his Christian faith, famously broke with the GOP to vote to remove Trump from office during the impeachment fight.
The president has made Romney a regular punching bag ever since, castigating him for losing to President Barack Obama. Romney is perhaps the most recognizable figure in the mainstream wing of the GOP, which has chafed under Trump's bombastic leadership.
