Trump’s travel plans to China announced amid Iran War tensions

  • President Trump will travel to Beijing for a summit with Chinese President Xi Jinping on May 14 and 15, White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt announced on Wednesday.
  • Trump’s original trip to China had been planned for later this month, but it’s believed to have been delayed after Trump’s concentration changed to Iran at the end of February.
  • Leavitt expressed optimism that the conflict in Iran could be resolved before Trump's visit.
  • Trump said last week, while meeting with Irish Prime Minister Micheál Martin in the Oval Office that he would be going to China in five or six weeks’ time instead of at the end of the month. “We’re working with China — they were fine with it,” Trump said then. “I look forward to seeing President Xi. He looks forward to seeing me, I think.”
  • “First Lady Melania and President Trump will also host President Xi and Madame pain for a reciprocal visit in Washington, DC at a later date to be announced this year,” Leavitt said on Wednesday.
