Trump’s inexcusable neglect of our country

At every opportunity, President Donald Trump makes the baseless accusation that his impeachment is a witch hunt aimed at overturning the result of the 2016 election.

His Republican henchmen and enablers parrot this accusation and his supporters buy into it hook line and sinker.

As with almost everything Trump says, this has no relationship with the truth.

What is even worse, Democrats (and the press) do virtually nothing to rebut this.

The sole reason for the impeachment proceedings is the behavior of Trump, with his abuse of power and violations of our Constitution.

What the Republicans and Trump supporters need to be reminded of is that if the president is removed from office, the person receiving the oath of office will be Vice President Mike Pence, a Republican, who was elected alongside Trump in 2016.

Also, the Republican Party still will be in control of the executive branch of the federal government, as voted in the 2016 election.

Impeachment has nothing to do with overturning an election result. It has everything to do with the actions of one man, Donald Trump.

Accountability for Chicago’s violence

I have to ask.

Where are the politicians in the Chicago neighborhoods mostly affected by the unending cycle of violence?

Mayor Lori Lightfoot has no answers. She spends more time and effort insulting President Donald Trump and protecting illegal immigrants than protecting her fellow Chicagoans.

Where are the aldermen in these wards? Where are the congressmen in these districts?

Where are the state representatives? Where is Sen. Dick Durbin? Where is Gov. J.B. Pritzker?

How can the people who actually run these communities look the other way? And, why?

Time to hold these politicians accountable.

Chicagoans should not have to worry about being harmed while going to work, the grocery store or even while in their own homes.

It’s time for somebody to fix this problem.

Mike Daly, Grayslake
