Trump-Russia dossier sources revealed to the FBI by Christopher Steele

Former British spy Christopher Steele has reportedly revealed the sources of a dossier containing information on Donald Trump and Russia to the FBI.

The 35-page document contained several unsubstantiated allegations about Mr Trump, specifically a 2013 trip to Moscow and Mr Steele provided names of the sources of those claims, ABC News reported.

Buzzfeed News first made the dossier public in January 2017.

The dossier was first commissioned by Glenn Simpson and his opposition research firm, Fusion GPS. Mr Simpson appeared before the Senate intelligence committee on 22 August 2017 and reportedly gave them 40,000 pages of relevant documents.

The hearing was conducted behind closed doors but committee members had said they were going to ask Mr Simpson about the funding sources for the investigation conducted by Mr Steele, who had once been stationed in Moscow.

There are ongoing parallel libel suits filed in US and UK courts regarding the matter of the dossier which have revealed additional details.

The UK case has revealed that at least $1 million of the funding for the Fusion GPS investigation carried out by Mr Steele came from a wealthy Republican donor and the rest likely came from Democrats "who wanted to dig up dirt" on Mr Trump, according to ABC News.

After the election, Mr Simpson, a former Wall Street Journal reporter, reportedly spent his own money to continue the investigation.
